The Delivery of Tolstoy

Director: Frederic Mitterand
Running Time: 91 minutes
France 2003

In 1910, the literary genius who foresaw the Russian socialist upheavals to come, underwent a profound moral crisis.

The anxiety of not being able to live up to his aesthetic ideals is heightened by the break down of his 48 year marriage to Sophia. At the age of 82, Tolstoy deserts his home and disappears.

A superb archive based documentary recounting Tolstoy’s last years and his death in the modest home of the stationmaster who gave him shelter.
