The film was inspired after a brief visit to Hollywood by the director and writer Jon Bang Carlsen.  As Eleanor Mannikka recounts, whilst there he stayed at the Montecito Hotel on Franklin Street, ‘The Hotel of the Stars’, that in reality houses aspiring actors and bit players.

The film has small fictional inserts that help dramatize the life of the thespians as they wait to be called back or wait for the next audition or just wait in between jobs.

The residents would rather remain poor actors than give up and enter the mainstream employment market.
