I Left, They Stayed
Director: Sasha Djurkovic
Running Time: 16 minutes
UK 2002
Post screening discussion with the Director
A personal account of the film maker's emotional journey from her
homeland, Serbia, to London in search of a better future.
The film covers the years 1999-2002 when she visited her family
and friends in Serbia several times. During this time, the country
faced Milosevic, a dictatorship, NATO bombardment, and the instalment
of a new government.
Each visit brought with it a sense of betrayal, guilt and loss,
torn between staying with her roots or leaving everything behind.
Sasha Djurkovic is a recent graduate of The National Film and Television
School and is working as an independent filmmaker.
