Human Interest/History ::
Israel 2008
Danny Chanoch is a Holocaust survivor. In his words he has a B.A. (Bachelor of Auschwitz) and had his own personal physician when growing up: Dr. Mengale. Danny survived five concentration camps. He has returned many times to the scene of these hideous crimes but he has failed to convince his children, Miri and Sagi, to accompany him. In six days, in one van, father, children and a film crew travel to 'that' Europe, traversing the terrain where Danny was forced to 'camp' again and again. The goal of the trip is to spend a night in Auschwitz in the same barracks where Danny once slept. The film concentrates not on reliving the horrors that took place at the camps, but on this chaotic trip with Danny and his children. The result is a film about the Chonoch family and how they deal with such a legacy, managing to get by in spite of it all. It is a film about the here and now rather than the history.
